Approximately 280 million people in the world suffer from depression

Evidence is mounting that there is a link between social media and depression. In several studies, teenage  and young adult users who spend the most time on Instagram, Facebook and other platforms were shown to have a substantially (from 13 to 66 percent) higher rate of reported depression than those who spent the least time. But how can another social network be the solution?

Dailymap goes against the very essence of modern social media and networks. Rather than having a business model based on the need of people's attention and time on the platform... Our business model is built on the idea of getting people off the app and out in the real world to create authentic relationships via social activities.

The cold hard truth, in numbers...

people suffer from depression all over the world

700K

people commit suicide every year, partly due to social media

40%

people think they'd be better off without social media

Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among 15-19 year-olds.

A 2018 British study tied social media use to decreased, disrupted, and delayed sleep, which is associated with depression, memory loss, and poor academic performance. Social media use can affect peoples’ physical health even more directly. Researchers know the connection between the mind and the gut can turn anxiety and depression into nausea, headaches, muscle tension, and tremors.

While we don't claim to cure depression or any other mental or physical health complication, Dailymap exists as an alternative for those who still want the "social" part of social media without the major sources of danger it offers. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our own impact and help society at large. If you or anyone you know needs someone to talk to, please try our free 24/7 mental health support at the bottom right corner or click here to find the number to a suicide hotline.

“If you’re spending a lot of time on your phone, you have less time for activities that can build confidence, a sense of achievement and connectedness,” - Dr. Hamlet.
